Cancellations

We will cancel or delay practice if the weather creates dangerous conditions 45 minutes before the start, using TeamSnap alerts. No news means practice is on as scheduled, although look to TeamSnap for the latest updates.

Rain

We do ride in the rain, so come prepared to ride. If the trails are too muddy or wet, we will seek drier trails, bike paths, or other training locations, and teach the students appropriate places to ride when it's wet.

Lightning

Our team follows the guidelines of NFHS on handling practices during lightning or thunder.

  • If lightning is seen and thunder heard, or lightning registers within a 10-mile radius on a lightning tracker app, we will halt practice for 30 minutes.
  • If the lightning occurs before practice has started, we will push back the start of practice for 30 minutes.
  • If the 30-minute timer resets before practice starts, we must cancel practice.
  • If lightning occurs while the team is on the trail, the team will stop riding and head to a safe location.

Air Quality Guidelines

Air quality is an issue in the summer and can worsen with wildfires. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is an index for reporting daily air quality. It estimates the concentration and type of pollutants in the air, and what associated health effects might concern you. There is a global unified 0–100 (poor to excellent) AQI, that is color-coded and simply communicated. See Map

We will cancel practice if AQI exceeds 100, measured closest to our practice location.

Parents

There are no penalties for missing practice, so make the right call for your student-athlete and your family, based on your needs, current conditions, and safe travel. We ask that you remain in the parking lot until you see your child begin the ride with their coach.

Be Prepared

Our weather can change quickly, and as we approach autumn, we encourage our student-athletes to come prepared to ride in the day's weather conditions. This may mean extra water on hot days or extra layers on cool days. We believe being prepared serves you well for mountain biking and life, so come prepared and enjoy the day outside!
