Team Captains 🎉
Team Captains are rider-leaders who help guide the team, mentor younger athletes, and serve as the bridge between riders and coaches.
Captain Responsibilities include:
Leadership
- Set positive example at practices and races
- Help organize team activities
- Lead warm-ups and cool-downs
- Check in riders and organize into groups before practices
Mentorship
- Welcome new riders and make them feel like part of the team
- Provide encouragement and support
- Share knowledge and experience
- Be available for questions
Representation
- Attend captain meetings with coaches
- Bring rider concerns to coaching staff
- Help resolve conflicts between teammates
- Represent team at school events
Service
- Lead by example in trail maintenance
- Support team recruitment efforts
Becoming a Captain
Captains are chosen at the beginning of each season.
Eligibility:
- Minimum 1 season with the team
- Actively participated in races during 1 or more seasons
- Good standing (academics, behavior)
- Strong attendance record
- Demonstrated leadership qualities
Selection Process:
- Application — Written application to head coach at start of season
- Interview — Meeting with head coach
- Selection — Head coaches review candidates and announce to team
Captain Application Questions
Applications typically include:
- Why do you want to be a team captain?
- What does leadership mean to you?
- Describe a time you helped a teammate.
- What ideas do you have for improving the team?
- How will you balance captain duties with school and racing?
Being a captain is service, not status. The best captains lift others up!
